Apple iMac

After the notebook event of October 14th, one might be wondering what’s next for Apple.

Consumers thinking of buying an iMac should reconsider and wait as speculations of a new iMac lineup are surfacing around the web. This should happen before the end of the year and most probably before Christmas season.

The iMac is a great product and should not see many asthetic changes but will surely benefit from new and more performant Intel chips along with better graphics processors.

No Firewire Port on the new MacBooks

Apple

Many users have been complaining to Apple after finding out that the firewire port on the new MacBooks has been removed.

Apple has kept Firewire only on the new MacBook Pros but not on the entry-level MacBooks. The previous plastic MacBook had a Firewire port and Apple justified it’s removal by saying that most peripherals are now using USB 2.0 and there should be less and less demand for Firewire as months go by.

This much is true but how about the people that have and want to keep their Firewire devices? I guess they’ll have to go for the more expansive MacBook Pro…

$800 Apple MacBook?

Apple

How much rumors can you handle? Well, with Apple, there will never be anything sure until they announce it themselves.

According to The Inquisitr, some Apple retailers have received new price lists for a new laptop line that could sell as low as $800. These new laptops could be in the ultra-portable range (or not) and could possibly use the new “Brick” manufacturing process we’ve been hearing about.

All of this is speculation of course…

Apple iPhone

One thing that the G1 and Android community could say they had that the iPhone didn’t was Google StreetView.

Bad news for them, Apple will be releasing a new update for the iPhone (2.2) and it should feature Google StreetView within the maps application. This update will also fix a few bugs, add an option to disable auto-correction in SMS messages, and support for emoji icons (email smilies and such).

No release date has been set for this update.

Apple is doing really well with it’s iPhone 3G product in the U.S. market, selling more than 10 million units in 2008.

Since its launch, the smartphone has become the #2 best selling overall mobile handset just after Motorola’s RAZR.

What is Apple’s “Brick”?

Apple

Rumors and speculations again from Apple. Everyone’s been talking about the “Brick” by Apple to be unveiled on October 14. Some talked about a Netbook product (like me), some about a metaphor seeing the “Brick” as a “weapon” thrown at Microsoft, and others were talking about a MacMini Pro.

We now have a new insight on the famous “Brick” from 9 to 5 Mac: a new manufacturing process for the new MacBooks where the outer shell would be cut out of a single piece of aluminum to avoid using screws and strengthening the structure.

What’s next Apple!?

False Report Makes Apple’s Stock “iDrop”

In a world where the stock prices are driven by pure speculation and rumors, it’s funny to see what a small report can do. Especially when it is said to be “false”. I have to say, I think this is getting out of control and investors will have to rely on real company performance, numbers and facts instead of emotions and speculation.

An article appeared on CNN’s iReport.com reporting that Apple’s CEO, Steve Jobs, was rushed in the hospital after suffering from a “major heart attack” on Friday. Immediately following the post, Apple’s stock started fall.

Everything was later denied and reported as being “fraudulent” by CNN. An investigation is underway to identify if the false report was posted to intentionally make the Apple stock go down.

Apple to Close iTunes Store. Yeah… Right!

Apple

Apple’s business strategy for many of it’s products is based around the iTunes store. So why would they threaten to close it? Well, right now, Apple is paying 9 cents per downloaded song to the artists, they want 15 cents.

The Copyright Royalty Board in Washington, D.C., is scheduled to rule today on a request from the National Music Publishers’ Association to increase royalty rates paid to its members on songs purchased from online music stores like iTunes.

Apple says that they might be forced to close they iTunes store if the fees go up because they might not be profitable anymore.

Good News for Apple iPhone Developers

Author: thetechlink - Categories: Apple, Cell Phones, Software - Tags: , , , , ,

Apple

The non disclosure agreement that Apple enforced on their developers prevented them from ever talking about the reasons why their software was being refused by Apple. This in turn frustrated many programmers as they felt helpless spending so much time and energy on something that would be turned down by the very organization in which they believed in.

Apple announced today that it will send iPhone developers a new agreement without the controversial Non Disclosure Agreement (NDA) that has fueled anger amongst them.

From TechCrunch: “According to Apple, it “put the NDA in place because the iPhone OS includes many Apple inventions and innovations that we would like to protect, so that others don’t steal our work.” But after dealing with public outcry, Apple believed it wasn’t worth it.”

New AppleTV Coming Soon?

AppleTV

Rumors, rumors. Because of Apple’s announcement to their retail stores to “destroy all advertising material related to AppleTV”, speculations on what is going on have been pourring on the Internet.

Some say it’s nothing, some say that they might be removing the product from the shelves and replacing it with something else, others say it might just be an update to the existing product.

I’ll stick with the third theory as it is quite possible to see new AppleTVs with full 1080p HD capabilities and bigger hard drives (also SATA instead of PATA). When will that happen? Nobody knows for certain.

Petition Against Apple

Apple

An online iPhone App Store Petition has made it’s way on the PetitionOnline website asking for Apple’s intervention over the “unfair” use of their Non Disclosure Agreements (NDA).

The problem here is that Apple reserves the right to refuse any iPhone/iPod Touch application that has been submitted to the App Store. OK. Sure. That’s fine, but at least tell the programmer why and let them share the reasons to the rest of the community so that others don’t spend countless hours working on a project that will be rejected anyways!

Apple’s Solution to iPhone Lineups

Apple iPhone

In an effort to reduce lineups and wait time for customers that would like to buy an iPhone in store, Apple released an online tool that will enable a user to pre-purchase his or her iPhone, choose an AT&T plan to go with it, go through the pre-approval process, and take an appointment to pick it up.

Once all this is done online, the user can then go straight to the counter and get his or her iPhone without having to go through the lineups anymore.

Apple’s ”Brick” Could be…

Apple

Anything really! At MacDailyNews, they think it might be a Pro version of the Mac Mini. Also there are rumors that it could be a tablet-style notebook.

If you follow the NetBook trend, my guess would be a Mac version of a NetBook (really small MacBook 9” or something but that’s just me ;) )
